Message From CEO

Message from the CEO
Since its inception in 2000, Janautthan Pratisthan, the institutional promoter, pioneered the community banking model to promote financial inclusion in Nepal. Today, Janautthan Samudayic Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (JSLBSL) has taken over this role, continuing its mission of empowering the underprivileged.
JSLBSL follows a "credit-first intervention approach," also known as the community banking model—a hybrid of the Grameen and self-reliant methodologies. This model marks a shift from conventional agriculture-based lending to skill-based and indigenous knowledge-driven product design, ensuring that financial services are tailored to the specific needs of marginalized communities. Our goal is to contribute to building an inclusive financial system in Nepal by reaching those who are traditionally left out of mainstream banking.
Targeted Financial Inclusion Strategy
JSLBSL has categorized its clients based on their socio-economic status to provide tailored financial solutions:
- C+++ (Hardcore Poor): Individual intervention with credit plus social empowerment, skill enhancement, and business development services
- C++ (Capable Poor): Credit plus social empowerment and skill enhancement/business development services, for those who may not require individual intervention
- C+ (Better Off): Credit plus skill enhancement/business development services for those with relatively better economic conditions
Through this approach, JSLBSL has become a trusted partner for deprived groups seeking economic empowerment.
A Commitment to Sustainable Development
JSLBSL was established with a strong vision of poverty reduction and addressing the marginalization of disadvantaged communities. Recognizing that traditional microfinance models are not sufficient to tackle client protection, social performance, and sustainability issues, we have integrated financial services with holistic support systems. Our programs go beyond credit—they focus on education, healthcare, economic stability, and entrepreneurship, particularly for women.
We actively support our clients by engaging them in entrepreneurship, professional farming, and capacity-building training tailored to their needs. Additionally, we are making significant efforts to reach socially vulnerable groups in urban and rural areas, ensuring they have access to financial resources and skill development programs.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, JSLBSL remains committed to innovation in microfinance, offering new products, advanced technology, and a wide range of support services to better serve our clients.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our regulators, Board of Directors, stakeholders, and partners for their unwavering support. I also deeply appreciate the dedication and hard work of JSLBSL’s staff, whose efforts have helped establish the Organization as a sustainable, unique, and impactful microfinance institution in Nepal.
Thank you!
Mr. Sunil Kumar Ray
